Profile
Sandra is an assistant professor within the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster. She worked clinically for over 11 years, primarily in community mental health settings. She started teaching at McMaster following completion of her Masters of Science degree in Occupational Therapy at the University of Western Ontario in 1994. In September, 2010, Sandra will complete her PhD at the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her dissertation explored institutional practices of silence surrounding healthcare workers with mental health and addictions issues. During her doctoral studies, she participated in a CHIR training fellowship related to mental health and addictions services and policy research.
Teaching responsibilities at McMaster include coordination of the Exploring Perspectives on Disability Experience with the first year occupational therapy and physiotherapy students, as well as course/session coordination and guest lectures related to mental health policy and practice in the professional masters (OT) program. She is also involved in curriculum development for the McMaster Occupational Health and Safety program.
Sandra's primary research interests relate to mental health/mental illness and disability issues, utilizing primarily qualitative research and participatory methodologies. She is particularly interested in workplace mental health, mental health policy, psychosocial rehabilitation and community engagement.

The chaos of my family life is about to increase considerably with the addition of a new puppy!
